What to Expect on Sunday

We are so glad you decided to join us for Sunday worship! When you enter Hammond Street Congregational Church on Sunday morning, one of deacons will welcome you and direct you to the sanctuary. As you enter the Sanctuary, our ushers will provide you with the Sunday Bulletin, which contains our hymns, call-and-response prayers, scripture reading, sermon topic, upcoming events, and schedule for the service. We remain in our seats until the conclusion of the Postlude and then all are welcome to join Coffee Hour in Fellowship Hall downstairs.

Accessibility

If you would like a hearing device, a limited number of devices are available, and the ushers will be happy to help seat you, should you like that help as well. There are chair lifts in the front of the church, and enclosed platform lifts are accessible from the rear entrance. Restrooms are located at the front and back of the church on the lower level.

Children

The nursery is open at 9:30 a.m. Sunday mornings and provides loving and supportive child care for newborn to age four. For Sunday School, there are wonderful learning opportunities for both younger (5-10) and older (11-17) children every Sunday after the Young Disciples Moment with the exception of the summer months. Sunday School children generally remain with adults until the conclusion of the Young Disciples Moment when their teachers accompany them to class.

We encourage families to bring their children of all ages to worship.

During the Young Disciples Moment, children may come forward and hear messages from the pastor about God’s love and examples of Biblical stories in a way they can comprehend. The Young Disciples Moment ends with a prayer and the older children then go off to Sunday School, while the younger children return to the nursery.

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

Communion

We take communion the first Sunday of every month. During this special time, the ushers will bring the juice and bread to you while you remain seated in the pews. We hold the cup and bread until everyone is served, and then we partake together after a moment of prayer. Everyone is welcome to join in communion if they wish to participate, regardless of background or membership status.

Gifts and Offering

During each service, we pass the offering plate to collect gifts and tithes from the congregation. However, please know that you are not obligated to give anything. Only contribute what you feel comfortable giving. We welcome all gifts, whether monetary or acts of service, to further God’s purpose and kingdom. Your generosity, in any form, is greatly appreciated.

Fellowship and Coffee Hour

We would be delighted if you could join us for coffee and fellowship hour after our worship service on Sunday mornings. It’s a time to socialize, say hello, catch up with friends, and extend a warm welcome to newcomers. Our after-service gathering is what truly helps foster a sense of community, allowing everyone to support one another and deepen relationships, making the church feel more like a family. Enjoy coffee, juice, water and small snacks . All families and their children are welcome.
