Clothing & Toiletries Ministry

Our clothing and toiletries ministry provides basic warmth and hygiene necessities to those in need in the Bangor community. We conduct an annual collection of toiletries for distribution at the homeless shelter. In the fall and winter, we distribute coasts, sweaters, and hats at no cost as well as put up a “winter warmth tree,” where members of the church can place new socks, hats, muffs, and packaged underwear on the tree or under it.

After winter, Hammond Street Congregational Church hosts an indoor yard sale in May. During the yard sale, buyers can purchase gently used clothing (coats, clothes, shoes, and more) for $1 to $5; some may be as little as 25¢. While customers are shopping, they can take advantage of many dishes, bowls, vases, coffee mugs, pots, pans, pillows and bedding for affordable prices.

Opportunities to Get Involved

We are always looking for dedicated volunteers to join us in making a difference. Whether you have a few hours to spare or want to become more deeply involved, there are plenty of opportunities to help.

We also encourage creative minds to help us plan and execute new clothing and toiletries drives or other events that can serve those in need. reach more people who need our services or who want to volunteer.

To get involved or find out more about these services, send us a message online or contact our church office.
